How can we make logistics more sustainable? A good example is the fasdhion industry, the fashion and speed in which we keep exploiting Earth, is simply unsustainable in the long term.  But also is the transport industry the biggest climate problem.

The transport industry has astonishing inefficiencies:

  • Past decade zero improvement in load factors
  • Loaded trucks have 40% unused capacity (and .trucks is empty)
  • Shortage of drivers is getting problematic
  • Companies are not willing (?) to use rail transport

But what we can do today is to use our data to identify collaborative shipping opportunities, like finding partners to jointly fill a truck/train/barge/… of finding partners to fill the empty return flow and finally, finding partners to create a tour.

All the above us synchromodal transport wich means to combine transport modes without compromising on service or responsiveness.

We can use smart data to create smart algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning overview, … The algorithms train to near-optimality for realistic problems.

The opportunities for Smart Replenishment are endless:

  • Multi-node networks
  • Mix of expedite and regular transport modes
  • Nearshore speed-factories

Objectives:

(1)Increase speed and agility in Distribution Network
(2)Set up a planning to manage (and limit) inventories

We end the day with an inspirational quote:

In the new world, it is not the big fish which eats the small fish, it’s the fast fish which eats the slow fish
